Salado Del Rio at Fort Sam Houston Golf Course
About
Fort Sam Houston is home to two 18-hole courses, Salado Del Rio and La Lorna. The Salado del Rio course is the more scenic of the two, offering spectacular views of the rustic countryside. The historic facility boasts some famous players including Sam Snead and Arnold Palmer. The layout is also more difficult than the other championship course at the club due to the presence of numerous blind shots and water hazards. Both Fort Sam Houstan golf courses feature tight, tree-lined fairways and greens that are medium in both size and speed. In addition to the two golf courses, Fort Sam Houston also houses extensive practice facilities including a practice chipping green and lighted driving range.

Fun To Play
Helpful friendly staff. Practice ball were not available when we wanted to warmup. Extremely hot so pace of play was very important. Great time on a challenging layout.
You need to play the course more once to play well.
The course has many doglegs so you have to play it more then once to understand the strategic layout. The staff treated us very nicely and the price from GolfNow was excellent.
An excellent day of golf
Friday was a rainy day but the course was fantastic! Few people were playing but even with rain, the course was in amazing shape. It was challenging but very doable. A very enjoyable afternoon!
Challenging and fun course for a good price.
Course layout is challenging and lots of fun to play. However, course maintenance is lacking a bit. Many holes had barren patches on the fairways which could have been eliminated with some strategic grass seeding. The material in the traps was very inconsistent randomly changing from hard pack to medium density to soft. A daily raking routine could alleviate this problem.
Nice
This course will soon be san antonios best little secret
Reservations
So did catch flak for not calling directly. Seems only one guy checks emails for tee off reservations and he was out a few days...single point of failure... clerk tried to say it was my fault/problem.
Grew up on this course
Greens were fantastic for the course played great. Fairways were hard pan most of the time but enough grass to grab the ball. All in all great experience. Felt good to return to the course where I learned to play golf.
Just fine
With the hot deals i use you can not beat the deal
Great for the price.
My only major concern with this course is the layout is a bit tricky considering they have little to no signage. It can be very easy to get mixed up and lost considering they have two courses there right next to each other. Great for the money though will keep going there
