The course needs a major upgrade. Staff indicated that efforts were being made. In all fairness give it a Year or two.
Northcliffe Adventure
"Wow, I'm going back to Northcliffe very soon. The course is in great shape"....said no one ever!!
Sorry, but after reading the mixed reviews and finding a decent price on Golfnow I had to try it for myself. The greens, the greens, the greens! Just probably the worst I have ever played! Very little grass, mostly sand. Some looked they had a sand trap right on the green. If this is supposed to be the improving condition, I can't even imagine what it looked like before. Too bad, also. Nice area, decent layout, fairly wide open, nice homes, etc. Seems like the course is the worst amenity in the area. I do wish the new owners well and hope they can turn it around, but it has a long way to go.
nothing
their was nothing good bad greens bad fairways awful traps my playing pardner Stan said it was the worse golf course he had ever seen
Scenic Course
enjoyed the course layout, fairways and greens not in best shape, but blaming mostly on time of year and lack of rain...first time playing so give benefit of the doubt.
Needs help
If you are a novice player and want to work on your long and short game go for it. Worth about 20.00. The tee boxes are in need of grass and course layout for each hole are inconsistent. The fairways are wide and lack tough roughs. This is great for those that are beginning golfers, however caution for hitting into the ball. The grass is short and ground dry. Bunkers are not really bunkers with sand, more like overgrown weeds with hardpan sand. Well, the greens are so sad. They is more dirt than grass.
I would not recommend anyone that is an avid golfer to take their precious time to golf here now.
Owners need to put some loving care into this course and it would be a great weekend course for the amateur player.
Still Improving everyday
Played course last Saturday and saw course is still improving. No poa like last year. Due to cold weather greens are dormant but are fast and holds shots nicely. They paint the greens every few weeks according to proshop guy as they treat for winter grass. The bunkers are out of play which is fine with me . The pro said they are going to grass in 80% of them in spring. Staff is great and very friendly. You can tell that this is a mom and pop operation by the welcome feeling when you are there. They improving vastly since taking operations over from previous guy who let course go. It is not a tour course but one that lets you get away, have fun and not break your wallet. I will continue to play here because I want to help support one of the last affordable course for the everyday golfer. As the guy in shop mentioned they are getting better one day at a time....and the owner is American!!!!!
Awesome Staff, Course Getting Better
The pro and people around the course are so friendly and helpful. The pro is putting lots of work into the course to improve it and bring it back to its former state. Worth it to go play a cheap round and talk to the people and see the hillcountry.
Getting Better Everyday
Have played course for many years. It is making a great comeback after previous owner neglected it. The pro took over recently and is making great improvements. They are going to grass in most of the bunkers...yeah!!! Greens finally have no weeds and course is being taken care of much better... It is a great place for the everyday golfer and those who want to have a great time and escape the daily grind... Staff is super friendly and it is worth a try for those who saw it last year.....hats off to the dedicated people who keep this course moving forward.
Great Value
The course is under improvement conditions. The bunkers were unplayable, free drop. The greens are being worked on for the spring. Fairways were in great shape.
Enjoy this course but...
The course was not in good condition. The greens were bad. It was affordable and wide open for a Saturday.
In Repair
I️ had played this course a month ago but since then the greens are almost unplayable. They aren’t just dead which happens this time of year, but have large sandy holes in them and are just bare. It’s going to take a long time for them to be playable. I’m guessing probably half of the holes are in this shape. The rest of the course is just fine. Rough fairways and some weedy patches which is fine. Thank goodness we played a hot deal for $14. There weren’t a lot of people there at 10am on a Sunday so we got to hit a lot of shots and practice without seeing anyone on the course for quite awhile. So the course served its purpose as we are 20 handicap players. Just buyer beware of the greens.
Bad condition
We thought we got a hot deal using the Golf Now app but this course was in awful condition. Bunkers did not have any sand. Greens were just dried brown grass. Tee boxes were so hard tees would break when trying to set up. Instead of a hot deal we got less than what we paid for and we still only paid $20/person. The Starter and the Bartender were really nice and helpful but that was about the only thing going for this course.
Rather sniff a goats rear end than play this course again
I paid $25, and that was about $15 too much. The course is actually terrible. There are large areas on the many greens where there is no grass its just uneven dirt.
A lot of the bunkers are dirt or covered in weeds.
You can't tell the fairways from the rough. Its essentially a field with some flags.
For $25 I'll play a muni happily for another $10-15.
The only people giving that course over 2 stars are the owners and their friends.
I couldn't use the driving range because they were picking it and cutting it. It looked like you wouldn't be able to hit driver on it.
This is just barely a golf course and looks like its just barely kept running.
Won't ever play there again.
Getting better
Improvements are continuing for this course. The fairways and greens continue to get better and the roughs are being maintained. They’re allowing the bunkers to grass in and they will remain that way. I enjoy playing this course and look forward to the greens becoming better. Give it a try if you haven’t played it lately.
The course has great potential and is in a good location but it needs some work. Bunkers need weeding and sand, fairways need weeding and the greens are spongy.
Course is coming back nicely.
I'm told the course has had some rough times maintenance wise, but it was obvious to me that better days are ahead. The lay out is well thought out, fair to both average and advanced golfers. Greens still need much improvement to bring it up to par. Some promotional material advertise the course as a links but I would refer to it as a normal course with many wide open areas with some high first cut rough. Mike in the clubhouse was very attentive. I stopped in to play and take a much needed break from a long drive from the Rio Grande Valley to Missouri. Very enjoyable afternoon.
