Olympia Hills Golf Course
About
Olympia Hills Golf Course is very exciting and enhances San Antonio's reputation as a golf destination. A unique combination of natural topography and man-made mounds and bunkers make this a super course. Native South Texas vegetation and golf course grass seed formulations on fairways and greens will provide state-of-the-game playing surfaces. The views are spectacular, with several holes playing to greens well below the tees, while other lead to a significant rise to reach the putting surface. Fairways, which on some holes are tight, are often sloped and guarded by bunkers. The tips will not be played by the faint hearted, but with four sets of tee boxes, the course can be enjoyed by all levels of players.

just ok
nice course for the money except greens are the worst i've seen here in a long time
Winter Conditions and Wow... Windy!
This is not the first time playing thise course and based on the recent heavy rains and cold snap, the conditions of the course were rather poor, allow me to elaborate.
1. Rain water collection in most sand traps, so they were generally unplayable. This will of course improve through time.
2. Washed out areas on greens; there were a few greens where they were making improvements (obviously), but the weather made a huge impact to them being non-playable based on where the ball ended up.
3. Pace of play was horrific, even though I saw the marshal a few times; I didn't see him making any effort to move people along. Total time to play 18 was a little under 5 hours. (NOTE - the high winds did not help, but there were some players ahead of me that should have been playing a few tee boxes up vs. where they were playing from)
4. Would be helpful to see where other carts are on the GPS provided screens on each of the carts; as there are a few holes where this would be very helpful to improve pace of play.
The front nine are more difficult than the back nine and this is a challenging course. I will wait till the Wx improves to play here again. The starter was very friendly, but he could have spaced out the starts a bit more because we started the back up on hole 2 and it did not improve and it really backed up on holes 10 and 11; this did not improve for the remainder of the round.
There are some very nice views from this course and we had plenty of wild life in the rounds.
Olympia Hills is so slow
We are running out of sub-$100 per round courses in San Antonio. Thankfully Olympia Hills has not lost its mind and is overcharging for a nominal course.
However for that same low green fee you get— people backing up the #2 tee box which is a par five because they won’t tee off until the group ahead of them is off of the green.
You have people who get out of their cart, walk 100 yd or more over to their ball, walk back to the cart to get a club, and then hit a 15 yd topped shot and goes through that time suck all over again.
And before anyone says,” tell a Marshall” let me add that there were none that we saw. When we book our round, Golf Now gave us the four hour window and I joked “what if we’re not finished?” Well maybe they should cut you off at the four hour mark to get people to hurry.
It’s not a sin to be a bad golfer. It is a sin to be a slow golfer.
The rest of the course is just fine. Sure some of the tee boxes are not in great condition and some of the greens and bunkers (especially those ones holding ponds of water in them) need work but this is a public course and it is in good shape for that. Definitely worth the money provided you don’t get stuck behind two somes that are slower than five-somes.
Pathetic
No grass on greens or fairways. Sometimes 3 groups on a tee at the same time. No ranger in sight. Simply the worse course we have ever paid for. Stopped after 9 holes
Greens burnt out
Only 8 minutes between tee times. 6 hour round. Overpacked. 4 to 6 somes on every tee, fairway and green on each hole. Greens totally burnt out. Count even keep the ball on the green.
Course is in bad shape
All of the greens were in bad shape with dirt patches throughout. Major construction across 8th and 9th holes (appears to be for drainage) so these holes were converted to ~100 yard par 3’s. Course layout is difficult, especially for a municipal course. A few holes have blind tee shots and slopes on some fairways can cause a lot of slightly off shots to roll into the woods.
Do NOT play!!
Buddy came in to SA and wanted to play a nice course. This was NOT it! Website says there was temporary holes on #8 & #9 due to construction. We accepted that. What the course failed to say was that other holes were also shortened and temporary, the tee boxes were so hard tees were breaking, and the greens were made of mud. The fact that there were a lot of tee times available should have given us a hint the course was a piece of crap. The first guy I complained to didn't even know anything was wrong with the course. The manager came in and said, “we’re re-evaluating.” Don’t waste your time; go to a muni and save some money or pay a little more and go to a real course. Absolutely disappointing. The coarse should be embarrassed and GolfNow should discontinue offering the course.
Sad
Course used to be in decent shape…worth the 50 or so dollars to play. In recent years the course has fallen apart, the staff always say “it’s getting better, the greens are coming back.” They aren’t. The greens are 50% grass, and putting is pretty much obsolete on this course. The layout is actually very interesting and a challenging course, but when you make no improvements to your greens, you can’t sit and charge 65 for a 30 dollar municipal course. There are much better options in the area from Buckhorn, Landa Park, Bandit, even Northern Hills.
Under construction
Fairways are in great shape but the greens are a little rough. Front 9 is under construction so it is not interesting navigating the course right now. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Definitely one of the better courses in the area.
Non-qualifying, ongoing redesign and overall very poor atate
They are redesigning a number of holes and the first nine are all temporary holes. Overall state of the course is very poor. I would bot recommend this course.
Bad greens and course under construction
Played here for years, and can’t remember the last time the greens were in this bed of shape. Also, because of some drainage construction, multiple holes are not in their usual play condition. Not the end of the world, but should be noted when people are reserving.
My home course
We absolutely love Olympia Hills. The staff is always very friendly, drink selection at the bar is great, course layout is fun and the condition of the fairways and greens have improved quite a bit. There is currently work being done on the course but it doesn't take away from the experience. The team has worked really hard to improve conditions and it shows.
