The Quarry Golf Course
About
The land that now provides a home to Quarry Golf Course was formerly the abandoned Alamo Cement plant. Keith Foster converted this unique location into a challenging layout with a links-style front nine and a back nine that plays entirely through an abandoned rock quarry with walls over a 100 feet tall on three sides. The first half of the golf course features plays through open fields of rolling hills with native grasses and a near absence of trees. Creeks and streams come into play on six holes of the front nine. The quarry pit on the back nine is truly the most unique feature on the golf course. Quarry Golf Course's most dramatic hole is the 17th, which requires a tee shot over a deep ravine that is framed by a 40-foot waterfall.

The Quarry Golf Course
Great links style course with both scenic and challenging holes. 10 minutes from downtown San Antonio and about the same from airport. In summer, front 9 holes hot. More breezes and cooler on back nine. Plan your round if temps are of concern. Love this course. Extremely well maintained.
Hot and Bumpy
The Wx was a hot and humid day in San Antonio, aka normal. There was a little wind, but nothing to cause concerns.
Practice area is very nice, but you have to hit off the mats and were restricted to irons only. Coming in from out of town, this would have been nice to know prior to getting range balls. There bunker complex to practice was awesome too.
Going off on the back nine, the starter was mid-way down the fairway vs. starting from the tee box. I found that to be a bit odd. But I was off and running with no issues... until I came to the greens. They looked fast, but played very very very slow. They were very bumpy too. It looked the they punched the greens a while ago and they were starting to come back. They needed to be cutt and rolled, and that might also be the greens staff defense to the hot and humid weather, I don't know.
Pace of play was awesome until I got stuck behind 2 foursomes that looked to be on a buddy trip. I get it no worries, just would have been nice to be allowed to play through.
Course marshall was nice and had them stop at the turn, so we could play through. The only other comment I would make is that there were a large number of non-par 3 holes that were cart path only, but didn't appear to be based on course or weather conditions. This is a hilly course, so plan to do some walking even if you have a cart.
This is and remains one of my favorite courses in the San Antonio area.
Must play
I must stop when in San Antonio. I’m very unique layout. Lots of fun.!!!
Great Fun at a Great Price!
I snagged a Hot Deal for single tee time at 11:30 am (2 hours after my plane was scheduled to land), and called the course on the day before to ask if they could hold my bags as I couldn't check into the hotel until after 4 pm. They said yes, and were very helpful in getting my stuff stored and secured, and even helped me and another single go out a little early. The recent heat wave hadn't affected the course, and the conditions were very good in spite of the 100+ temps the 2 weeks prior to my round. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, and while it was warm, it was a dry heat (compared to where I live in Florida) so it the temperatures was bearable. Can't wait to go back!
Course Great
The course was fantastic, only reason for the four star rating is the greens weren’t the best. They were healthy but very slow still a fantastic course will go back!
Nice course…but not $100 green fees nice
Overall the course was good. We played today, 3 July, and the greens were very shaggy and really slow. Pace of play was pretty slow because of the group in front of us. I definitely wouldn’t pay $100 green fees again, or anything over $50 to play this course. Spend a little more and play TPC or La Cantera for this kind of money.
Good value
The course is currently in excellent condition. Greens a little slow but I imagine they keep them that way cause of summer heat.
Slowest Greens Ever Played
Course was cool Layout, and overall good condition. But the Greens are incredibly slow. Literally they where cut as long as the fringe at other courses. I would love to return when they are faster, but it is not worth paying to play with how slow they are currently.
Great course, but disappointing that they don't honor golf now tee times same as tee times booked on their website; similar courses with similar green fees include bottle of water and range balls....except quarry.
