Randolph Oaks Golf Course
About
The Randolph Oaks Golf Course is an 18-hole course that provides 7,172 yards of championship golf located only thirty minutes from downtown. After a much-needed update, the course now boasts renovated greens and sand traps that provide more challenge than the original design.
It is an enjoyable course to walk, making it a good option for juniors and seniors. The layout features a cut of rough around the greens, which have several breaks in them that make them pretty tricky. There are also numerous strategically placed sand bunkers. Randolph Oaks is open year-round and it also offers a lighted driving range with putting greens for golfers to get some extra practice.

Rough Shape
This course was in really rough shape. Several greens were almost unputtable. Good length. Interesting/challenging track. Tough to score on these greens.
Turned away. Wow.
Arrived 15 minutes before tee time and was told that the course was too busy. I was told to come back in a couple hours!?!? Came back two hours later, just to find out that they were still too busy and was turned away. Absolutely unreal! I’m truly hoping this is somehow remedied, I’m furious.
Hot deals
I have always enjoyed playing this course because of it’s convenient location and the course is always in good shape. Most times that I play this course I book a hot deal, which is not a problem when they are not busy. But, when they are busy it’s a problem. They honor the hot deal that you’ve payed for online with GolfNow. But, not the actual tee time. Example, booked 12:56 hot deal and staff at counter informed us that he would put us on a list and couldn’t get us off until 2 or 2:30. I do not believe they have online booking and only book by phone, which is the problem.
Love the course
I’ve played it many times, but due to weather it was wide open. I loved having the course to myself!
No Communication with GolfNow
Randolph Oaks Explained to us that Golf Now and them are not in communication. We booked earlier in the week for a 12:56 team time. While checking in at 12 we were told that we would not be able to be fit in until 2pm. This was due to No communication between the two. While packed days on the course are not uncommon it is to be told your tee time is push back an hour. Because your tee times have been booked and they are unwilling to change it because you paid $20 on GolfNow and a member is in your spot.
The staff for the most part were welcoming and helpful. Except one individual who argued with us about golf now as if it was our own fault. He then explained to us that we were lower on the social ladder than club members because we booked through golf now and we would be the ones who have to move our tee time because I do not have a membership for that course. For a USAF military installation with a golf course that’s main values are suppose to include diversity, equality, and honor. This was unsat.
This was not my first time playing Randolph but in the last 2-3 trips over the 3 months. I think I will spend my time in other places due to the consistent headache and lack of respect for others.
This course needs a staffed starter
I arrived for my1:04pm tee time about 15 minutes early. Signed in and received keys to cart, the starting tee box was packed with other golfer who did not have tee times. Two groups in front of me were arguing as to who was next on the box. One had a tee time and the other did not. A staffed starter would have helped
Great course, great conditions
It’s a great course and it’s well maintained! It was a “holiday” for the base so the course was packed. Part of the success of the course is the draw for more people, so it’s busy. That won’t stop me from coming back again, though. The layout is wonderful and a good track to play, especially for the price.
Nice Track - Horrible Pace of Play
Nice Course overall - however the comments about pace of play are right on the money. I saw the Marshall once, and that was when he drove his cart to the cart barn to go home for the day. We waited on every teebox after 3 - this was due to the group 2 groups ahead of ours. They were the definition of slow, plus it did not help that the group in front of us thought they could play from the Whites, when they should have been on Red / Gold.
Overall Observations:
1. Course conditions were fantastic - greens were a bit slow, but they rolled true.
2. Tee boxes for Par 3 holes were being saved, so you had to tee off outside of the normal boxes; which mean "rough" - these could have been better maintained.
3. Warm up area -
3a. range - you will hit off mats, but it was not bad, becuase the mats accepted longer tees vs. hitting off the rubber ones. - Range makers need to be improved though.
3b. putting area - nice and it gave a decent expectation for green speeds on the course and there are some undulations and hills that mimic what is on the course.
3c. bunker area - did not see one - bunkers on course were hit and miss, but generally nice and fluffy sand
There was no beer cart or mention of not having one on the course when I checked in.
Getting There - DO NOT TRUST GOOGLE - it will take you to a gate that is closed on weekends. - use the Randolph AFB Main Gate. Then once you get on the base - it was a bit of a nut-roll trying to find the course, as it is on the other side of the airfield.
Overall - I would play this course again based on cost - for less than $20 as a member of GolfNow you can't find a better deal in the San Antonio area.
