La Loma at Fort Sam Houston Golf Course
About
The La Loma course is one of two 18-hole, championship courses at the historic Fort Sam Houston. The facility hosted the Texas Open in the '50s and '60s, making it the only military facility to ever host a PGA event. La Loma has its fair share of challenges but overall the other course at the club, Salado del Rio, is the more demanding of the two. The fairways are tree-lined but not as tight as on the other golf course, lending a more forgiving quality to La Loma. The greens are medium in both size and speed and there are strategically placed bunkers throughout the course. Fort Sam Houston also has a practice chipping green and a lighted driving range for golfers to use.

great day
Course was in great shape for wintertime. Only a couple of greens suffering from this time of year. Love to play here once a week!
48 HOURS TO GET A PASS!
Don't play if you are not military!!!!!! You have to have a pass and GolfNow doesn't tell you that until you book your round. If it's inside 48 hours you are screwed!!!!!
Great course great price
Their twilight price cannot be beat. Two separate courses to choose from, both set in scenic San Antonio. Greens are nice, fairways might be nice, I never hit one. The rough was not so rough. I may have hit every tree on the course... gotta justify their groundcrew budget.
Fun course
Went on a busy day. Shop got me out on the course in no time at all with no headache and the pace of play was great.
Change of Courses
Normally play out at Lackland as a member, but we have a few free rounds of golf out at Ft Sam, so we decided to use of of our free plays. It was during the wee, so easy to get on the course. We have played many of times before. Course is well laid out, easy to walk. The condition of the course has declined just a little, but normal cost are very reasonable, and now it is opened for non-miltary members
tee time?
Enjoy the course and always book the same time offered...but usually get bumped due to scheduled tournaments. Usually try to play La Loma but also usually get pushed to the other course that is less enjoyable.
Solado
Enjoyed the round today, however the greens were in pretty crappy condition.
Could be better
If you are just starting out playing golf and have no expectations of what a well maintained golf course is, then this is the course for you. I recommend this course for new players, hacks, drinking with friends. The course is not maintained well, no one enforcing pace of play, hard bunkers, long grass fairways, and okay greens.
They do provide water on most of the holes.
Pro shop staff is friendly.
I wish they took better care of the course as it could be great.
Golf Course
Even though my booking was for the La Loma course I was told it was unavailable due to a tournament and they put me on the other course Salado
Great course for price
The course was in decent shape. The fairways were good but greens needed some help. They were a bit hard and patchy.
