The Palmer Course is one of two golf courses at La Cantera Resort, it is named after its famous designer, golf legend Arnold Palmer. Firmly situated on 225 acres of Texas Hill Country, the golf course features plenty of elevation changes to keep golfers on their toes. There is also an abundance of mature oaks covering the course, requiring accuracy off the tees. The unique layout incorporates dramatic waterfalls, lakes, and numerous white sand bunkers throughout. La Cantera Resort’s Palmer Course has several signature holes, most notably the fourth hole. This demanding par 3 requires a long carry over a lake with waterfalls along the front of the green.

Finishing hole. The 2nd shot into the green is possible one of the most beautiful shots a golfer can make. Photo submitted by mstacy769 on 06/27/2013

Great Round on a Great Course
This this 3rd round I’ve played at the Resort Palmer. I appreciate it the more I played it. The course is in great condition, I think it’s the best layout in the San Antonio area. The staff and everyone was very friendly and helpful. The only downer for today’s roundwas the lack of food service at the turn, otherwise perfect.
Gem of a course - great views of hill country!
Beautiful course, wide enough fairways, nicely manicured throughout, friendly marshals, frequent beer cart. Seemed like we were the only ones on the course most of the time, which is probably true since we teed off in the middle of the day in August.
Great course crappy stafg
Started with Marshall lecturing us on keeping pace and hovering in our first tee shot. Made the round crap. Had continuos hassling by staff about pace with no one behind us and group in front in our view. Finally lost my patients and asked the staff to either back off or refund our money. It’s a shame because the course is awesome and very challenging.
Just a delight
La Cantera never fails to deliver a great round of golf. The course is always in great condition as was the case when I played. You learn to get used to a few of the blind tee shots after a few rounds on the course. Definitely helps to play with someone who has played there before. Great course, friendly staff, excellent round of golf. One of SA’s finest.
Disappointed
Having played its sister course on Thursday, La Cantera Resort course, I was disappointed in a few areas. I realize it is the responsibility of the party making the reservation to ask if the greens have been punched. My bad, I didn't they were. The starter when asked if the greens were in the same condition as the putting green, he replied, "yup, they look pretty much the same", not an answer I was expecting. Secondly the tee boxes were completely hammered. It didn't appear that they moved the markers for a few days. Also there wasn't any sand and seed mix for the tee boxes. A note attached to the cart roofs reminding the players to fill divots, might go along way. I realize the GPS system might not matter to most but when you've never played the course and not knowing where carts are located in the few blind spots, with this issue the time added to the round from going and finding out where the carts were. Yes, we even changed out the cart with a GPS not working. Got to the #10 fairway, out it goes again in another cart. Finally, as a twosome we played at a very acceptable speed, until we hit the 16th hole, where we came around the hill and came to a complete stop. A twosome whom we had not seen all day the foursome we were following and our twosome. It literally took an hour and a half to finish the round. A ranger might have been useful. All issues can be addressed, I would say, the support staff were exceptional.
Palmer Course @ La Cantera
The Palmer course is in fantastic shape! Every time I am in San Antonio I make it a point to play here. Out of all the Arnold Palmer designed courses I have played this one is my favorite! The greens are some of the toughest in the area. The staff is very friendly and extremely knowledgable about both courses at the resort. The mango scented cold towels are a nice touch when you finish your round. Can not wait to play here again.
Beautiful great course
This course is set in native Texas Hill Country where they have done an excellent job of preserving it's natural beauty. Tough and challenging course but fun to play.
La Cantera Delivers
La Cantera Palmer always delivers fantastic quality. Course conditions are always great. Pace of play has never been an issue with the Palmer course. Usually the tee times are spread enough that you rarely run into another group. The course itself plays through some major elevation changes with a few blind shots. Not a fan of the blind shots, but the views of San Antonio and the hill country more than make up for it. Highly suggest playing up one tee box from normal as the areas around the greens are difficult if missed. Major tilt to the greens, 3 putts are difficult to avoid. Most follow the natural tilt to the land and can be very quick if above the hole. Great course, must play if around the area. Take a moment and enjoy the views especially on the back, you won’t regret it.
Best course I have played in Texas
Couldn’t have been more satisfied. Personnel where friendly and helpful and all worked to insure a great experience. Course was challenging but fair if played from correct tees. Fantastic conditions in all aspects. Great value! Recommend this course to anyone that is wanting a great value on a great course. Pace of play was great. Played 45 holes before wife called. Greens are fast and course knowledge is helpful so you are putting from right spots , otherwise 3 putts can be the nor.
Great Course
Booked a round for $55 through golfnow which was sweet.
Upon arrival the staff greeted us very warmly & everyone was super helpful & friendly.. & i mean EVERYONE.
The course was in immaculate condition & greens were very fast but fair. Beautiful course but lots of natural ob so bring a few extra balls if your a mid-high handicapper. Few holes with blind shots so best to play conservative if you dont know the course. Management does give attention to the details to make it a very enjoyable round, all the ball washers were soapy & water coolers were cold.
From the bag boys, starters, marshalls , pro shop, were very friendly.. the cart girls always made their rounds to ensure you needed anything. Great service A+++++
I highly recommend the Palmer & resort course
Accuracy off the tee box is needed
Course was great. Beautiful layout in the middle of the Hill Country. Each round comes with practice balls which is nice. Not a single lie on this course will be flat, but fairways are fairly wide. Greens are true and run moderately fast (I played the day after it rained so they were probably slower than usual), but still in great shape. Bunkers were still heavily saturated and pooled, which was a bit disappointing, but I still hope to play the resort course soon.
Great condition, slow, slow, slow
The course is in great shape. Greens are the best in town. Could be a little faster. Lost GPS for 3 holes. Pace was painfully slow.
Fun hill course don’t rent or expect anything from proshop
No complaint about conditions
A hill course with wide fairways to drive.
Fun elevation changes
The combination of blind shots , with elevation wind
Make yardage’s difficult but fun. Bring your short game
Greens roll true.
Rental clubs , 65 dollars really.! I feel violated especially when they go to no effort to ask you about your game and
Give you a set that was set up closed for a slicer. Ridiculous Could have gone to a thrift store and gotten more help.
