The Palmer Course is one of two golf courses at La Cantera Resort, it is named after its famous designer, golf legend Arnold Palmer. Firmly situated on 225 acres of Texas Hill Country, the golf course features plenty of elevation changes to keep golfers on their toes. There is also an abundance of mature oaks covering the course, requiring accuracy off the tees. The unique layout incorporates dramatic waterfalls, lakes, and numerous white sand bunkers throughout. La Cantera Resort’s Palmer Course has several signature holes, most notably the fourth hole. This demanding par 3 requires a long carry over a lake with waterfalls along the front of the green.

Finishing hole. The 2nd shot into the green is possible one of the most beautiful shots a golfer can make. Photo submitted by mstacy769 on 06/27/2013

Nice course
Well maintained course with good variety in lay out.
Enjoyed playing it.
Loved the course but one major issue!
My buddies and I set a tee time to play at the course for his bachelor's party. We drove from Fort Worth, TX to play this particular course. So needless to say, we we're very excited to play here. Showed up a little early, already had our carts ready to go for us. We hit some range balls and then went off. This is where the headache starts...
After finishing the first hole, there is a nice little hill you have to go up to get to the second tee box. Our cart would not make it up the hill. We had to get out and push the cart up the hill and eventually made it. I immediately called the clubhouse and told them our issue. The guy I spoke to said he would get someone out there immediately. So we proceeded on to finish the 2nd hole. We assumed they would have brought a new cart by the end of the 2nd hole. Nope! So we continued on...The cart would drive but it was painfully slow and would not go up a tiny incline. We finished the 3rd hole and the 4th hole. Still no new cart. So I called again and a woman answered this time. Had no clue we were in need of a cart and promised she would get someone out there. So we were halfway through the 6th hole and finally someone showed up with a new cart. The guy just laughed about it and tried playing it off like it wasn't a really big deal. When you're paying almost $100 for a round of golf, this is a major issue. I voiced my opinion and it just seemed like they didn't care. I loved the course but didn't enjoy my first visit.
Great course
Good lay out with a lot of variety. Difficult course but still plays quite comfortable. Play again tomorrow.
Average course per expectations.
Horrible pace of play. Plus got messed together with people who wasted time and stole balls. If I reserved a two some when no one was behind us I didn’t see the issue playing our two some. Many blind shot for new comers not knowing was just a waste of a shot. Plus the ppl in front of us were all over the place and delayed the game out of pace play. I will most likely not return or recommend the course. I rather go to the resort. Plus the added on twosome skill level was a lot worse than ours that led to a bad experience.
Scenic views
Scenic views with great greens condition and speed. Only short game practice area that is poor.
One of the best public courses in TX
I took a week in late January and made a swing through most of the good public courses in TX. I'll admit that I'm an architecture snob and am not usually a fan of Palmer designs. However. this course is my favorite Palmer course. Conditions were terrific for January, Bunkers, greens and tee boxes were well maintained. Every hole is different and offers a varied challenge. The front nine plays through valleys. The back nine is on top of a ridge, with amazing views on Hill Country. It is less busy than its sister course and other top 10 courses in the state. I would strongly recommend this course if you're visiting the San Antonio area.
Great course, mediocre conditions..
After a month of no rain it is understandable why the course is beat up. Most of the bermuda rough is burnt from ryre grass that hung on until the drought.
Bunkers are horrible.. The little sand that is in them is cheap masonry sand.
Fairways decent, greens too.
Troon used to keep premium courses in great shape. Very sad to see them let this one go downhill
Great all around
You can’t go wrong here. Great condition, nice layout and friendly staff make this a course not to miss.
Very fun layout
Staff was terrific, super friendly and welcoming. Clubhouse was spectacular, looks like it’s been there for 100 years. Luxurious lockeroom and seating areas, was too early but very nice bar overlooking 9 and 18 greens. Arnold designed a challenging but fair course. A few artificial looking waterfalls, creeks and ponds but mostly appears to use the Hill Country elevation to perfection. A few blind tee carries but more landing room than you’d expect on a fairly tight course. Greens rolled nicely, fairway was in good shape for the season. Miss The King!
Fun course!
The day was windy and a little cold but I had a wonderful day of golf. The greens are quick but receptive. I wholeheartedly recommend this wonderful course.
