The Palmer Course is one of two golf courses at La Cantera Resort, it is named after its famous designer, golf legend Arnold Palmer. Firmly situated on 225 acres of Texas Hill Country, the golf course features plenty of elevation changes to keep golfers on their toes. There is also an abundance of mature oaks covering the course, requiring accuracy off the tees. The unique layout incorporates dramatic waterfalls, lakes, and numerous white sand bunkers throughout. La Cantera Resort’s Palmer Course has several signature holes, most notably the fourth hole. This demanding par 3 requires a long carry over a lake with waterfalls along the front of the green.

Finishing hole. The 2nd shot into the green is possible one of the most beautiful shots a golfer can make. Photo submitted by mstacy769 on 06/27/2013

Best Course in town!
I had the pleasure of playing the Palmer Course which was challenging but very fun. Palmer design this course for golfers just like him that ball flight goes from left to right so most of the fairways you have a lot of forgiveness on the right side. I played this course on Friday and had so much fun I ended up coming back on Sunday. the entire staff was extremely friendly and made me feel welcomed as if I was at home I will definitely be back and will definitely recommend this course to anyone looking to have fun!
Disappointed
The Resort Course is much nicer, and better maintained. If I could say anything I would say if the resort course had the greens from the Palmer course it would be a perfect course. It’s a shame that a course designed by Arnold Palmer gets neglected like this. The fairways are rock hard, with dead spots of grass all over, one of the Tee boxes was covered in crab grass, the bunkers were mostly hard packed sand. I hate to say it but The Quarry is in MUCH better shape than the Palmer Course. Kind of sad when this is supposed to be a fancy resort course. If you play at La Cantera don’t waste your money on this one. Go play the Resort Course instead.
Nice experience
First time user of this app and it all worked out great. They put me in the first group and we were a three some. As such, we finished in just over 3 hours. Staff is ver nice. Range only allows irons which was disappointing. Most of the course is very challenging but fair. The rough is deceptively thick and will grab your clubs. Not a problem if you stay in the fairway!!
Several of the greens were pretty scarred which was also disappointing. They were not even fair to put on.
Overall it was a good time. I would like to come back in the Fall when the heat is not a factor..
Greens are rough and 0 sand in bunkers
Honestly not worth the cost due to bunkers and greens
It was a great day. I choose to play the jade boxes. I was disappointed when the only jade box in front was the first tee box, the jades were all behind the copper boxes which made the course much longer then I wanted to play.
Great course with a friendly staff. Bunkers need work but I don’t play too much it of them.
Spectacular
Scenic, elevation changes, excellent conditions, carts with state of the art GPS and a four hour pace of play. We will be back.
Stunning Views, Challenging Layout
The views on this course are truly stunning. I couldn't possibly say too many good things about the layout and conditions. Although the course was pretty wet because it had rained very, very hard the day before (and the morning of), the course drained well and was much more playable than most courses would be. The layout is very challenging and interesting, with several holes hitting 50-100 feet up and downhill. Would not miss the chance to play this again.
A decision makers course
Many of the tee shots require placement, you don’t need a driver off many tees. The greens were fair for June in Texas, and the fairways were manicured well. Great views all the way around
Great layout, great condition except for the bunkers
Amazing course.
Great condition for greens, fairway and rough. Greens at 9 on stimp meter. Could be faster, but they are true. But the bunkers are bad, very bad, Very hard pack soil under a very thin layer of sand. Club is bouncing every time.
Palmer course
Fantastic course in overall great shape
Rack rate maybe a little high but I do recommend
Great views
Minuses : bunkers were unplayable due to heavy rains a few days prior
Practice putting green not up to par
Listen to Mr. Wally
Mr Wally advised us to hit most tee shots left. Very good advise. Fastest greens we played this trip. We played The Bandit on Wednesday, May 1 and comparing greens, these were just a little bit faster. The Palmer is a version of The Bandit but on steroids! Unless your accustomed to playing slopping fairways, uphill shots, and some blind shots, this course is worth playing. Plenty of tee boxes to make the right choice. Fairways are wide enough if you stay left. (Listen to Mr Wally). We will be back and play the Resort course next time too.
Good condition
Loved the wide fairways and five different tee choices. I was able to pick tees that matched my ability. Fair layout and not tricked up.
A must play golf course
I play the palmer twice a year, it is very challenging and beautiful course, the greens were firm and fast today.
Bes views in SAT
The Palmer course has to be the most dramatic in the San Antonio area with far reaching views across the city from the higher altitude holes. Those elevation changes mean you better be on your clubbing toes. Likewise the close proximity of thick bush and big drop off mena you best bring a lot of balls if your a game is not in your bag. That said ball hunting usuallyu yield a ball or two even if iut isn't the one you sent in there. The day before we played the course had been battered by a Texas thunderstorm with golfball hail so we were warned that the greens had been sanded and might be a bit random. In reality we found they had recovered well and generally gave a good roll notwithstanding mother nature's efforts. In short, if you are in SAT make the time to give the Palmer a whirl....life is too short not to.
