SilverHorn Golf Club of Texas
About
Silverhorn Golf Club of Texas, located only 15 minutes from San Antonio's Riverwalk, has quickly gained a reputation as being some of the best golf in Texas. The layout covers 262 scenic acres of rolling hills covered in mature oaks and cedar trees. The challenging golf course features tree-lined fairways and carefully contoured greens. There are also lakes and creeks, both dry and wet, coming into play throughout the golf course. The front nine's signature hole is the par-5 sixth, which has 20 acres of water bordering the entire left side, while the back nine's signature is the par-4 15th, which is considered the toughest hole on the golf course. This 446-yard hole features an elevated green that is guarded by a large bunker on the left and two creeks crossing the fairway.

3.29.2023 - Course Review
The course itself was pretty nice as far as the layout goes. We had a blast and got paired with 2 really good randoms. Beautiful Course overall, lots of unique holes. I imagine when this course is in perfect condition its phenomenal.
With that being said the price is not really appropriate to the conditions it was in. Spent over $100 per round and it was not in good enough shape to justify that. Driving range was set up to where you were hitting at a downward angle. Basically all of the greens were very slow and had weeds coming through in multiple spots. The tee boxes were definitely not mowed very short in my opinion. Not a huge deal for the P4s and P5s but not ok to have grass between ball and club on tee on Par 3. There was another tee box that was basically all sand as well.
Wish it Wasn't but it's just Average
I've played this course plenty of times... but had not played since they remodeled the restaurant. They stopped doing a military discount so the fellas and I (all retired military) took it out of our rotation. However, we finally decided to go back and check things out......Completely Underwhelmed.
To be fair, I like this course's layout, playability and its a popular one in the local area. Also, the restaurant upgrades look fantastic and the staff is always amazing at this course. That being said, it's just not worth $100 for a round of golf... especially without a military discount. For God's sake, San Antonio is Military City USA!!!
Come on Silverhorn, support us and we will support you!
Nice course, but pace of play is abysmal.
The course is fun to play and can be very challenging at times.
Overall, there is never a Marshall so the pace of place is very, very slow.
I would not play in the future unless it is the only course available. I hate rounds taking 5 hours.
The staff are very nice and friendly.
Will come back.
We would like to see better coloured markers for tees.
The tee boxes were very dry and hard to put your tee into.
Silverhorn Sunday
Very smooth tee time booking experience! Course was in pretty good shape. Pace of play was excellent.
Great Course
Very nice course, greens were in good condition. Pace was good, didn’t have to wait for group ahead of us until last two holes. Food and drink prices were pretty steep.
Interesting course, but slow
To be fair, we played here for the first time on a holiday. At the first tee we found out we’d be behind 2 kids, which isn’t a bad thing necessary, but they clearly had no real idea how to play or what the rules of golf were. 4-5 practice swings before each shot, then they’d watch the ball fly off into the woods once hit. Then tee up another ball or two…. They drove the cart right up to the green, ignoring the exit sign. Even drove on a par 3 despite the cart path only sign. We finally told them we were skipping the hole they were on, and the pace definitely picked up, though the course was definitely crowded. Not a surprise on a beautiful Monday holiday. The bunkers were in good shape, the clubhouse was new and attractive, the carts (no GPS or scorecard) worked fine. The fairways and tee boxes were rock hard, understandably due to lack of rain,, but overall not a fun day. Probably won’t be back.
Be sure to look for rocks.
I’ll say the greens were probably the best part. I don’t think I’ve ever played a course where if you miss the fair way (I know we should hit those and it wouldn’t be an issue) by 2 feet you where hitting off dirt and there where lime stone everywhere. I had to make sure there were no rocks behind or under my ball before I hit so I didn’t damage my clubs. I think if they would have charged 30 bucks it would have been worth it but the fact that it was over 100 bucks really leaves a sour taste in my mouth. I’ll admit I’m not from around here but played with a few local guys and they said it’s a little different in the summer. I’ll just have to take their word for it.
Winter vaca
Liked the course and played it twice during stay. Would be better when grass comes in
