Good layout
Holes layout are good and nice to play. However greens are very hard and fast. They don't hold the ball, so expect to do much more strokes in this course.
Back at it
Hadn't been back in a while. The course lacks a decent drainage system, thus making it extremely muddy, very uncomfortable.....and where it's dry, it's extremely dry and hard
Good for practice rounds
Greens rolled well and fairways were soft. However rough and others areas had terrible hard pan and were impossible to get a shot on. Tee boxes were generally uneven. It would have been nice to be able to get more distances from the fairway and approach shots. The course was a great place to warm up at and would go back to work on my game.
Not bad
The course was pretty good for the middle of winter. This was my first time to play the course and we enjoyed it for the list part. I liked the conditions of the front 9 better but the difficulty of the back 9 was challenging.
Good Course needs work
Greens were in great shape but the course had a lot of casual water. Cold front came in after six holes. The wind and cold took away from our enjoyment. I have played the course before and I know once the weather turns it will be in much better shape,
Great greens
Good course. Layout not the greatest. But the greens were awesome. A good value for what we payed. Pro shop staff is super nice. Will play there again.
Good Bang for your Buck
My golfing experience at Northern Hills Golf Club was very enjoyable. The staff and the patrons were very open and pleasant. The grounds were well kept and a fun challenge.
This is a good local course
Recent rains have diminished the condition of the fairways but the greens were in excellent shape and very fast.
Northern hills review
Fairways are thin, lots of tight lies around the greens but the greens did roll out and had quick pace to them especially if you got above the hole.
A really nice course
I have been playing here for the last 6 months or so. I have tried several other courses in the San Antonio area including Windcrest, Olympia Hills, Northcliff, Randolph, and Landa Park. Northern Hills has it all over those other courses. The staff is laid back and very helpful. The course itself is in fine shape with the exception of a few bare ground spots off the fairways, and the greens are as good or better than any others. Best of all, everyone I've met while playing at Northern Hills has been very friendly and courteous.
Nice neighborhood course
Tough /long par threes; greens are in great shape but balls do not stick and roll fast. Decent value for the money especially if you can get a GolfNow tee time.
decednt for the money
Fairways and greens were in excellent condition, rough was more like hard packed dirt and it seemed like some of the tee boxes had been forgotten by the grounds crew.
Great Day
As a single, I acquired my tee time through GolfNow, which was the very first time I ever used GN. After arriving at the course, the GN printout I presented was instantly recognized. Within 10 minutes the other 3 guys I was paired with showed up. They were friendly and great. The fellow I rode with also acquired his tee time through GN. We had a wonderful round riding together.
easy course for the most part
Decent shape, nice that you get 2 drink tickets but hotdogs were really bad.
Don't bother
I read some of the reviews before playing....Not very accurate.
The greens were in decent shape. Other than that I have nothing good to say about this course.
First Time, can find better course for same money
This is the first time we played this course. We had a 3-some, 2 men and one woman. The course itself was fairly simple, open and forgiving. Shots winding up on another hole’s fairway could be played with no problems (others playing in your fairway as well). The gentleman behind the counter was friendly and the course was not necessarily busy and the first 9 holes played at a great pace. However, we had a 4-some wind up in front of us on the back 9 and it all went downhill from there. Men wearing denim shorts, sleeveless cut off t-shirts, taking extra shots and really slowing down the pace of play. The course was in OK condition, not the best with a HUGE anthill problem. There are prettier courses in better shape with more disciplined golfers in San Antonio for the same or less money when using Golf Now for deals.
nice layout
water and bunkers, greens/fairways good, easy play on sunday, good carts, staff said to bring hard copy or smart phone confirmation for golfnow, other courses just asked for confirm number.
Great course for seniors
I have enjoyed this course a few times and feel the senior tees make it a very fair course but still a good test. Greens are very, very good.
