Tough Challenge if your not a Single Digit Handicap.
400 + yard par 4's are tough, you need to be 250yrd average off the tee to have a chance. There's a 180yrd Par 3 uphill that plays 200+, 3 Wood or Driver sometimes for many not reasonable. Par 5's typically are set up with a fair distance, the exception is no. 6, blue tees measure 602yrds and normally the white tees are pushed back to make it 500+ yrd hole, mostly up hill. Greens are in pretty good shape but it took a couple of months to grow in.
Overall I wish the course gave a little more to the avg player.
I prefer to play a course where each hole gives you a chance at par, even if it takes several rounds to accomplish it. Breaking 80 would be nice but this course has a few holes that seem to make it impossible for most.
Although I've marked Recommended, it would not be in my top 10. San Antonio has a ton of other options that in my opinion are a better value and more fun to play.
Nice course easy to get on as a single
Nice course, good condition. Will play again, but only at a discount price.
One of my favorite courses
We had a very early tee time. All was perfect except bathrooms were locked on back nine.
My Home Course
This is really a great place to play 18 holes. Staff is friendly, Course is in good shape, year around. If you book thru GolfNow.com you will find a great day each day. This course is 10 minutes from my home. I usually play solo but always paired up with the most interesting golfers in SA. I love this course, give it a try.......Hole #1 and #10 are awesome par 5's with crazy dog left/right........Go Play......
Great grooming
We had a great time out yesterday. Course was groomed very well. The beer was ice cold. I had forgotten how difficult the course can be for a beginner. I left about a dozen prov1 behind... Booked the round for 15$ each. My wife raved over the restrooms on course. Much better than a port o' john that you see elsewhere!
This course is well taken care of.
The guy in the pro shop is a bit short with folks at times but he does keep the line moving. The course Marshall is a very good guy and pleasant to encounter.
Great Value for the money! Great Greens!
The greens were the best part of this course. They were, all but a few spots here and there, in excellent condition, and they rolled true. From fairway to tee, the course was in ok condition, but for $25 my biggest concern is how the greens roll, and I was very pleased.
The pro shop attendant was very nice and got us on the course very quickly, starting us off on the back nine as a result of the front being a bit backed up. We were able to finish 18-holes right at 4 hours. The course wasn't crazy difficult (despite my play). The par 4's were mostly on the shorter side. The par 5's were all reachable in the high 400 to low 500 yard range, and the par 3's were probably the most difficult of all the holes in that they were all in the high 100 yard range from the back tees.
All in all, this course is a great value for the money. The lay-out is nothing to write home about, but it definitely has its challenging moments. The tees and fairways are in need of a little TLC, but as long as they keep the greens rolling fast and true, I'll be back.
Nice challenging course.
This was my first time to play the course and I was pleased with what I saw. A good test of golf.
Fun Course
NHGC is a nice track, with several challenging par 3s. Par 5s aren't hard and most lies are fairly tight. It was worth what we paid.
Pretty nice course
The course was fairly back and forth - not a lot of change. Greens were unpredictable one to the next. Overall - it was a nice course for the money. If you want to just go play a game, this is a good one.
Slow play on holiday wkend
Very slow Play today. Nobody is working i guess witht the holiday wkend. There are no marshalls to speed up play.
Course for Intermediate and beginners
Course is forgiving with the multiple approach shots to the green even if you are left or right on your drives. Trees can pose a problem; however, smart play will allow players to "take their medicine" and punch out or knockdown wedge for a better shot to the green allowing them to save par or an honest bogey. The greens aren't the best in the area, but they are playable and can be fast depending on what time of day you play. Over all a great time was had and will be returning for more golf in the near future!
Nice course
Nice kept course. Quiet neighborhood and friendly staff. A little expensive compared to comparable courses in the area, but a good course to play
Enjoyable
This course is very laid back and in great condition. It sits in a secluded area surrounded by homes and apartments .
GOATRANCH
GOATRANCH!!!!!! Fairways are like CONCRETE!!!
5-somes were very slow! You could tell they were Regulars!!!
Northern Hills
Good course, challenging holes. Paired up with 2 other golfers, enjoyed the round.
good course for price
great course for the price. I would definitely recommend this course
Speedy greens
Fairways didn't have much grass. The greens were too fast and all were sloped too much with the pins in penalizing places. Nobody likes working hard to get there only to three and four put. The on course toilets were dirty and in disrepair. One toilet was constantly running good water down the drain in this drought. One can tell this course is going downhill from what it once was. The local member women groups also cut right in in front of you.
Good Course, great value
I started playing Northern Hills last summer as it is good course to walk. The layout is challeging enough to make you think before pulling a Driver. Greens always in good condition even in the winter. It is a better value than any of the City Courses.
Low cost/practice course
It's cold, it's February. Course was in the condition expected for the type of facility and location that it's in. During the warm months I would guess it's perfect for amatuer and first timers to get some good practice. I wouldn't pay more than 30 a round w/cart here. I booked it not knowing about any courses in San Antonio, it was going to be cold, I found a hot deal online. It was wide open, very simple course. Clubhouse manager was a really nice guy. It's the type of course that I would have played when learning the game. Perfect for that. Great walking course if you choose to.
