Excellent Greens
Great value and nice views. The fairways had a cushion of grass the greens were challenging and had moderate rough around them. I plan on going back soon.
Good Course; Great People
Course was descent. I played 05/20/2013 and I am from out of town, Charleston SC. From the other reviews, I expected better course conditions. Nothing below standard but just nothing extraordinary either. Just a solid, nice course for the money, but not breathtaking.
In Good Shape
Course was in good shape only a few hard pan areas and only if you were well off the fairways.
Greens were in great shape though a little hard to hold the ball on them as they were fast and hard. Very few shots left ball marks. First time playing the course and will go back.
Good Overall
I didnt give this course a five only because of the "member" six-ums that play in front of you and hold everyone up. Its okay for them to have these type of tournaments everyweek end but they should do it at non busy times.
lady at register
course was ok. greens heavily sanded couldnt get the ball to check and stop just kept rolling. par 3 were way too long, no need for 200+ yard par 3 x 2 on a short course.
i gave it one star for the rude old lady in the front office.
Sweet Course, Great value
My only gripe is that I got out an hour early, I work shift work for the Air Force so I can play during the week, and they wouldnt let me out. Other than that its in great shape, greens are nice and super fast. I had a great round in under three hours, great for middle of the week. I will definitely be back.
Fun course at a fair price.
Would play again. Greens need a little bit of attention, but overall a great play for the price.
This course is great value for your money
The course is very well maintained and decently challenging.
a nice forgiving comfortable course
a good course for the average golfer except all the par 3's are a little too long for mr. average.
Great course for the price. Nice staff and greens roll nice.
Good location with great pace of play. Some challanges and a few feel good holes. Staff is nice and the 19th whole (grill) has nice selection. The greens look great and are fast.
Fair price for $17
I felt the deal I got for $17 was fair for what the course had to offer. Public courses are in better condition and a better value.
Course in great shape...heavy sand on the greens (seasonal).
the Tee boxes and fariways were in excellent shape. The Greens were heavily sanded but I realize that its necessary to maintain an healthy green. I only wish I had played better.
Sandy greens and backyard play?
Having read the reviews before booking I was optimistic. Unfortunately I was disappointed when we played. The greens were completely covered with sand. You could see the grass, and it was green but when the ball rolled on the green, you could see the trail of sand kick up behind it. May as well have tried to putt on a beach. On to the fairways. They were green but there are a lot of places on the course where you can't tell if your on the fairway or in the rough. The practice range sits between hole 1 and 9, which left the two fairways riddled with practice balls. Some chopped in half from the mowers.
All that being said, the course will challenge your skill with some tough bends starting each set of 9, long par 3's(most too long for my liking, 180, 200 yards.) and 1 carry over water on hole 12. The staff was extremely helpful and nice. I may play here again, but only if I can't get the time that I want at a better course. Oh and watch out for the jerks driving by that will slow down and wait for your backswing and honk their horn.
Very nice course layout
Course is designed for all skill levels. I shoot in the low 90's and really enjoyed the course. Challenging enough for the lower handicapped also- IMO. Carts were in great shape and included ball and club washer plus dual coolers. Now that a good setup!!
Greens were very fast and in great shape, fairways could use some work. Long course and challenging.

Good condition. No starter
We were 45 minutes early and were toold we had to wait till our tee time to start. No one was waiting to tee off and there was a 2 hole gap. Since there was no starter we just went ahead.
Well Maintained Greens make this a Challenging Treat
Played this course in February and once over the previous Summer and both times the greens were in impeccable shape and fast. With many two-tiered and domed greens, it's the play on the putting surface that sets Northern Hills apart from other courses.
The fairways were in so-so condition with brown spots and weeds here and there but nothing to fuss about. The open course design will be welcome for golfers of average skill as its not too punishing on an errant shot.
Will definitely play it again soon.
Good course to have fun on.
Good course with fast greens...bring your A+ game. Very enjoyable.
Greens fast and undulating
Pass of play was hampered by undattended twosome that seemed to think the course was all theirs for the day.
Friendly service, carts/ball washers/ water stations all maintained and up to par, course is maintained nicely and greens are old school, true and fast
Over all it was a good experience. The service was very friendly , the carts where very clean, sand was full, ball washer on cart was full. The fairways are what you would expect for February and are still a little green. The greens are fantastic for this time of year and they are true and fast. Great value.
