Northern Hills Golf Club is an excellent traditional course with well placed fairways and greens. Lovely old trees make ball placement critical to a good score at Northern Hills Golf Club. The 18-hole, 6,627-yard golf course is situated on approximately 130 acres that will prove interesting and challenging to any level of golf abilities. First time visitors or repeat guests to Northern Hills Golf Club will enjoy expertly maintained greens and new water control systems.

Northern Hills Golf Club members have first crack at better tee times, especially on weekends, but this is a super course for visitors to play during the week.

Northern Hills

Based on a recommendation I tried this course. It's a decent semi private course. It appears that they let the members just come and go as they please on this course which can be annoying to some. One thing I will say is that the greens were lightning fast.

Who puts ArmorAll all over a golf cart...really?......This course!

I have been playing for some 33 years now and rarely ever play this course as it is an easy walk (barely 6000 yards), but they do not offer a walking rate. I decided since I had not played this course for a few years and it was only $16 on GolfNow...thank you GolfNow as this course is barely worth the $16 I paid to play it. I had a 2:00pm Tee time which I was appropriately 30 minutes early for...when I arrived I was informed I was playing with a group of 3 that had yet to check in so I got in a ragged out golf cart that they supply to load up and discovered that the entire cart was covered in ArmorAll....including the steering wheel! I spent a little time on the putting green waiting for the rest of my group to show up with 10 minutes to my time I decided to go wait by the first tee...with 5 minutes to spare the 3 young guys showed up loaded up and I thought it was our box as no one was teeing off....until NOW.....Uh excuse me but we have the 2pm tee time....oh we're the 1:44 group...Oh really....Y'all were on the range and not paying attention to time....great! Ok so we're next behind this threesome.....nope....we have to wait for the 1:52.....Fivesome....yes....Saturday afternoon fivesome....really.... I say to the guy at the pro shop as there is no starter to be seen....I tell him so I guess you're running behind since there was no one on the tee and now we have to play behind a fivesome at 2:30. He says no we're not running behind....REALLY! could've fooled me buddy...this is right up there with Armorall on a plastic steering wheel! This course has always been run this way...Oh yeah almost forgot about the Par 3 9th with the 185 yard blind tee shot....really...they put the tee box behind a group of trees that you have to hit over, but you cannot see the green......AT ALL!!!!. It seems that from the clubhouse to the cart staff...a bunch of genius's work at this course. If it's not $16 or cheaper.....don't waste your time with this place there is far better places to play. The courses I have recommended fall within the same price range and are a much better value with less aggravation....check'em.... out especially if you can score with a "HOT DEAL"!!!!

Texas hospitality is felt here!

I was very happy with the staff's willingness to par me up with a couple of members. The members were cordial and willing to provide advice of the course layout and recommendations of where to place my shots. The course clubhouse was quaint but needs some upgrades. The course itself was OK. The fairways and greens were very firm (dry). I would not come back and play because there are plenty of quality golf courses in San Antonio.

Nice course in good shape

First time playing this course. Really enjoyed it. Nothing too tricky but definitely has some challenging holes and it's fairly long from the tips. Fairways and greens were in pretty good shape. Will definitely play again.

Surprising

Good course but the guy in the pro shop was dry and rude. Asked about military discounts for veterans and when I showed him my VA card, he said it wasn't a VA card. Thanks sir. I won't be playing this course unless someone buys my round!

Good course super sandy greens

Fairway's were very nice, but the greens are so filled with sand that you can literally see the bounce shape when you hit your approach shot, and this also makes putting quite impossible too much sand...

Nice, neighborhood course

It had been 20 years or so since I played this course. But my presumptive son-in-law was dying to get out and play on a weekend (I usually play on a weekday). I would not have come out to play if were not for the discounted round on Golf Now. Once there, I really liked the course; it outperformed my memories. It routes through a clean, attractive neighborhood. The fairways and greens were in solid shape (the tee boxes need work) and it's not a pushover course. The practice area is small but still user friendly. Overall, I'll be back when I get another nice rate.

Up to par.

The course is well maintained for being in drought season. Although the greens were heavily treated with sand, I understand why. This is my 3rd time visiting the course and enjoy it every time. During summer hours the 19th hole should be open later because we were unable to utilize our drink tickets and would have eaten dinner there. Several groups behind us after 7 pm sun still out playing golf. If your going to offer tee time specials after 4pm, at least the 19th tee should be open later as well.
