SilverHorn Golf Club of Texas
About
Silverhorn Golf Club of Texas, located only 15 minutes from San Antonio's Riverwalk, has quickly gained a reputation as being some of the best golf in Texas. The layout covers 262 scenic acres of rolling hills covered in mature oaks and cedar trees. The challenging golf course features tree-lined fairways and carefully contoured greens. There are also lakes and creeks, both dry and wet, coming into play throughout the golf course. The front nine's signature hole is the par-5 sixth, which has 20 acres of water bordering the entire left side, while the back nine's signature is the par-4 15th, which is considered the toughest hole on the golf course. This 446-yard hole features an elevated green that is guarded by a large bunker on the left and two creeks crossing the fairway.

No water available
The course conditions and layout are great right now. It had been a while since playing there due to a history of slow play out there. It’s still quite slow due to the difficult layout but my biggest complaint is that they have no water jugs along the course. Its extremely hot here in Texas and I’m not so concerned with water to drink since they do have a beverage cart out but I like to keep a wet towel to clean my equipment and a separate towel to keep as cool as possible. The lack of water made my experience less enjoyable for such a nice facility.
Water coolers
It was 100 degrees and there are NO water coolers on the course. One of the gentlemen in our group the last time almost passed out from the heat. He had to stop after 9. The Cat girl is hardly around. I told the front desk about the problem out there and they gave me some story about people putting their towels in the coolers and contaminating the water. I do not understand way they can't find a solution and just look up the water kids like other courses to keep that from happening. Clear nothing I said make a difference after yesterday's round because nothing had changed. Someone is going to pass out and the course will be responsible when that happens for not having water accessible to the public.
Has potential.
Really neat layout. Good be 5 star. However, course can handle rain - never heard of a driving range being close cuz it’s too wet. Manicure is rough around the edges and the chipping/putting area is subpar - not a good reflection of the actual greens. Staff could use some basics hospitality training. They seemed a bit annoyed with having to be at work. Raw material is there, however, which is more than many courses can boast. Last, no GHIN rating.
Tough test and phenomenal condition.
I usually play a few of the more expensive courses in San Antonio but was pleasantly surprised by the course, layout, conditions and good test of golf. The recent rain has really helped the greens and fairways. Even though the greens had recently been top dressed they rolled true. A little standing water on a few cart paths but none in the fairways. Even with nearly 8” of rain in the past few weeks a 90 degree rule was in place and definitely justified. For the price this may be the best course in San Antonio. I hope the course pro and the superintendent read this review because they definitely earned a new golfer!
Where’s The Water??
The clubhouse area looks fantastic. You can tell they’ve put some money into this place since the last time I played here last year…good on them for that. However, they must be supplementing that cost expense by cheapening out on course amenities such as simple ball wash stations or drinking water. Fellas Covid has long since been over. Quit being cheap… put water jugs and ball wash stations out on the course before somebody has a heat stroke. Your cart girl had one bottle of water and it was 10 in the morning and just starting to get hot.
I have played Silverhorn 3 times. Very challenging and fun.
A couple of comments.
No water jugs on the course. When your playing in high 80 low 90 weather with high humidity. You should have water every few holes.
No marshals. I started with 4. ended up alone even though all 4 played golf. This made the back really slow.
Sanded Greens, No drinking water on the course
The fairways were in great shape. The greens were just sanded so they were extremely slow. The biggest issue with Silverhorn is that they insist on not having drinking water on the course. This is a major fault for a course in central Texas.
Last Minute OK
Course was in good shape, without mowing due to moisture. Fairways were thinker and the greens on the course were a bit shaggy. The pace on the practice green did not match the on course greens. Range balls were not included.
Great course
My only complaint is they don’t have water jugs out on the course or ball washers. Other than that great course.
Course in great shape; greens, fairways were excellent. Challenging layout overall but fun to play. Back nine requires precision...no margin for errors
Tough tight layout
Nice course, tight, difficult, strategic. Greens on the slow side. Arrived early as 12:00pm to warm up and practice area was being watered. Why would you water at noon? No acceptable bathrooms around the course.
